TREATMENT

INTEGRAL GUIDANCE

Integral Guidance, is a method that I have developed during my 35 years as a professional in the field. It is based on the idea that each persons thoughts, feelings, and body are intimately connected.
The treatment always takes into account a holistic perspective and uses a combination of different methods that increases your self- awareness.

Over the years, from interacting with thousands of patients, I have become convinced that every person has a healthy core that can be brought forth through these well-established treatment methods, to promote health and well-being.

TREATMENT METHODS

The treatment  method I use is tailored for those who want help with stress, pain, tension, sleep difficulties, dizziness, worry, anxiety, lack of self-confidence and personal development.

The aim of the treatment is to lay the foundation for how you can reduce your symptoms, create better balance in your life, and find a more relaxed way of living.

Below you will find descriptions of the different treatment methods that are included in Integral Guidance.

If you are curious about how my patients have experienced their treatment, you can read more under the heading  “Testimonials”.

BASIC BODY AWARENESS

This method was initially developed as a physiotherapeutic treatment from within the Swedish Health Care system. It maintains a holistic view of the individual and is a common treatment for various states of pain and stress-induced conditions. It can also be used to enhance physical functions in different sports. In part derived from the Eastern training form of Tai Chi, it encompasses simple gentle movements aimed at training both body and mind. The purpose is to provide individuals with the opportunity to discover self-healing powers and creativity, thus providing tools for self-help.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The treatment can be done individually as well as in a group. In both cases, the physiotherapist guides you through various simple exercises, focusing on maintaining conscious presence. The growing awareness promotes the development of new and gentler ways of moving.

RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE

The method has been included in several published studies and is constantly the subject of new research, both national and international. The published studies show a significant improvement in symptoms among the individuals who participated in these studies. The method is also widely used in reducing and preventing stress in athletics and artistic practices.

THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD - "Awareness Through Movement"

The Feldenkrais Method's learning process is unique and resembles the little child's exploratory way of learning. The method aims to teach individuals to become more aware of their movements and then discover new and better alternatives. It is based on the capacity of the nervous system to improve functions and allows individuals to develop at their own pace.

You are encouraged to explore your own capabilities, respect boundaries, and embrace change. Having a focus on the skeleton's supporting function helps to reduce painful, habitual movement patterns and unnecessary muscle tension, providing greater ease and flexibility in functioning to relieve and prevent symptoms.

The method was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, who found inspiration in Judo and neurophysiology and combined this with a lifelong study of human movement science. The method regards the human being from a holistic perspective and aims to train both the mind and the body. The goal is to equip individuals with useful tools to be able to reduce and prevent their symptoms themselves.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The treatment is conducted both individually and in groups. During the individual treatment (or lesson called Functional Integration (FI), the Feldenkrais teacher guides you with their hands to discover new movement patterns. During the group treatment called ATM – “Awareness Through Movement” lessons, the Feldenkrais teacher verbally guides the individuals through a series of movements from different starting positions; lying, sitting or standing. As needed, the ATM element is also included in the individual treatment.

PSYCHODYNAMIC BODY THERAPY (PDK)

This method consists of various techniques to release breathing and muscle tension and, thereby come in contact with suppressed emotions that may be a contributing factor to the patients problems. You are helped to develop new approaches that can, over time, reduce and prevent symptoms.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Through various massage techniques and exercises, muscle tension and breathing are released. You then have the opportunity to come in contact with suppressed emotions that may be a contributing factor to different symptoms. The guiding conversation helps you put words to these emotions and helps you to see how these unconscious emotions may have limited your previous way of being. Therefore, through the new insights gained, you are offered more favorable approaches that enable you to better utilize your newfound resources. This ultimately leads to reduced symptoms and problems.

RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE

The method is an individual, clinically proven treatment form that has been widely used in both Norwegian and Swedish physiotherapy to treat stress-related issues and chronic pain. Berit Bunkan and Kirsti Monsen are two of the Norwegian physiotherapists and psychologists who have helped develop the method, which was previously called “psychomotoric physiotherapy”. The method began to be used as early as the 1940s in Norway and has since undergone continuous development. The method was adopted by Swedish physiotherapists in the mid-1980s.

RELAXATION - ACCORDING TO JACOBSEN

Through progressive relaxation, you can practice your sensitivity to feel when your muscles are tense and how to consciously relax them. The method gives you a valuable tool that you can use in your daily life to reduce painful muscle tension and prevent the onset of new tensions during stressful periods of your life.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

With the help of the physiotherapist's verbal guidance, you focus on different muscle groups in your body and learn to feel when the muscles tense and relax. Throughout the treatment process, you gradually increase your ability to feel more subtle nuances in muscle tension, allowing you to detect when you are tensing up earlier and actively choose to relax. Treatment is done individually as well as in a group.

RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE

The method is clinically proven and according to the latest report from the National Board of Health and Welfare, the method has an equally significant effect as pharmacological treatment for stress and mild depression.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

The guiding conversation includes elements of both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic methods and Mindfulness-oriented psychotherapy and is used to clarify habits, put words to difficult emotions, and understand their origins. You are thus offered the opportunity to discover and develop more favorable approaches aimed at reducing your discomfort and preventing new symptoms.
